WTGO-LP (97.7 FM) is a low-powered, non-commercial radio station licensed to Lafayette, Indiana. WTGO-LP broadcasts at an effective radiated power of 100 watts. The station's studio and offices are located at 724 Wabash Avenue in Lafayette, IN with a tower facility located on South 30th Street in Lafayette, IN.

History

As a vision realized by Harvest Chapel Pastor Tom Camp, both owner of Harvest Chapel, Inc. and its holdings (including Sacred Grounds Coffeeshop, WTGO, and the name and holdings of the Calvary Chapel-style church, Harvest Chapel.) WTGO-LP began broadcasting in the Fall of 2003 with a variety of experimental programming. By 2005, WTGO became Christian rock/metal format and later tapered to more a more alternative sound. In 2007, the rock/metal format resumed and continues to present. This station was also the first low power FM station to be licensed to the Greater Lafayette area.

Programming

With the spiritual vision and direction being provided by Pastor Tom Camp, WTGO was originally engineered and managed by Andrew Longman who left in August 2004. In 2005 Matt Whatley was brought on board as both an audio engineer and WTGO's Station Manager. In March 2005, Robert Schueler was brought on initially to help with the technicals of building an off-site studio and later becoming the PM and then AM and PM host of the "Bob-Squad" show, which lasted from May of 2005 to April of 2007. Whatley left the station in May of 2006 and Schueler took over as Station Manager and DJ. Schueler left WTGO in April of 2007. With the addition of Brett Estes as Program Director in August 2007, the program format was revamped to more of a rock/metal sound. Estes also hosts the Morning Music Show, currently airing from 6-10am weekdays. The station debuts new music at 5pm Fridays via the "Friday @ 5" show. Clips from "Friday@5" are then uploaded to the stations myspace page, www.myspace.com/wtgo

Christian Hardcore and Christian Heavy Metal is aired on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm-midnight.

WTGO's Sunday programming format is lighter musically and includes more worship songs. The station is true to its Christian roots with an exemplary and verifiable Christian lifestyle being expected of its staff. In terms of its music, WTGO thoroughly reviews each song's lyrical content and overall message before adding it to the rotation. In lieu of the impression they can make on the younger generation, bands that perform live at Sacred Grounds are also lovingly observed in a Christ-centered attitude to ensure the songs they write and sing as well as their personal lifestyles are exemplified through their "walk and talk."
