Kadri Venkata Reddy

Kadiri Venkata Reddy or K.V.Reddy (b. 1 July 1912 - d. 15 September 1972*) was a Director, Writer, Producer and Production Manager of Telugu films in Andhra Pradesh, India.

K V Reddy was born on July 1, 1912 in Tadipatri town of Anantapur district. He studied B.Sc Physics in Madras Presidency college before starting his career in film industry as cashier for Vauhini Studios starting with the movie Grihalakhsmi in 1938. K V Reddy directed movies like Bhakta Potana and Yogi Vemana with Chittor V. Nagaiah as lead actor. His movie Patala Bhairavi starring S V Ranga Rao and N T Rama Rao released on 15th March 1951 became big hit and completed 100 days in 28 centers. Maya Bazaar the magnum opus of Shri K.V.Reddy is noted for the excellent Screenplay adoptation. It was never noticed by the audience that entire Pandava clan is absent in the film which in itself is am amazing control of Shri Reddy over the script.Maya bazar is a big hit in Andhra Pradesh and is still remembered for it's excellent allround work. Shri K.V.Reddy's another film Donga Ramudu (55) starring ANR and Savitri is another film which shows the mettle of the director. This film is included in FTII poona's Curriculum for the craft of movie making at it's best.

K V Reddy Award, an award given each year for best director in Telugu film industry is organized by Yuva Kala Vahini. Winners of the K V Reddy Award include Puri jagganath (2006), Shekar Kammula (2007).
