- Cabinet of Georgia
The Cabinet of Georgia is an
executive council ofgovernment minister s in Georgia. It is headed by thePrime Minister of Georgia . Occasionally the meetings are led by thePresident of Georgia as well. The first Cabinet of Georgia was formed byNoe Zhordania in theDemocratic Republic of Georgia in 1918. However, the firsthead of government wasNoe Ramishvili , Zhordania succeeding him. Until24 January 2008 the cabinet consisted of four State Ministers and thirteen Ministers. After the re-election of PresidentMikheil Saakashvili significant changes were made to the structure of the cabinet by the current head of the Georgian Government, Prime MinisterLado Gurgenidze . As a result, currently there are five Ministers of State and thirteen ministers. In Georgian politics, a Minister of State enjoys higher seniority over a minister as opposed to theBritish Cabinet where a Minister of State is below a Minister byrank . As a consequence of 2008 changes, several new positions, such as Minister of State for European Integration and Minister of State for Diasporas as well as Minister of State for Reintegration were introduced. Several former positions such as Minister of IDPs and Accommodation and Minister of State for Reforms were abolished. The ministers of defense and interior as well as the Prosecutor General are not members of the cabinet as such and are subordinated to the President of Georgia.[ [fullurl:Cabinet of Georgia/Current cabinet|action=edit edit table] ]
