Ernest Gordon Phelps (April 19, 1908 - December 10, 1992) born in Odenton, Maryland, United States was a Catcher for the Washington Senators (1931), Chicago Cubs (1933-34), Brooklyn Dodgers (1935-41) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1942).

He helped the Dodgers win the 1941 National League Pennant.

He was named to the 1938-40 National League All-Star Teams.

He finished 18th in voting for the 1936 National League MVP for playing in 115 Games and having 319 At Bats, 36 Runs, 117 Hits, 23 Doubles, 2 Triples, 5 Home Runs, 57 RBI, 1 Stolen Base, 27 Walks, .367 Batting Average, .421 On-base percentage, .498 Slugging Percentage and 159 Total Bases.

In 11 seasons he played in 726 Games and had 2,117 At Bats, 239 Runs, 657 Hits, 143 Doubles, 19 Triples, 54 Home Runs, 345 RBI, 9 Stolen Bases, 160 Walks, .310 Batting Average, .362 On-base percentage, .472 Slugging Percentage, 1,000 Total Bases and 16 Sacrifice Hits.

He died in his hometown at the age of 84.
