Roman Haubenstock-Ramati (born
27 February 1919 inKraków ; died3 March 1994 inVienna ) was a composer and music editor who worked in Kraków,Tel Aviv and Vienna.Haubenstock-Ramati studied composition,
music theory ,violin andphilosophy in Kraków andLemberg from 1937 to 1940. Among his teachers were Artur Malawski andJózef Koffler . From 1947 to 1950 he was head of the music department of Kraków Radio. From 1950 he was a professor at the Tel Aviv Music Academy, where he also led the setting-up of a central music library. In 1957 he was awarded a six-month stipend for the Academy forMusique Concrète . From 1958 he was an editor of new music forUniversal Edition in Vienna. In addition he gave guest lectures and composition seminars in Tel Aviv,Stockholm ,Darmstadt ,Bilthoven (theNetherlands ) andBuenos Aires , and from 1973 held a professorship at the Musikhochschule in Vienna.Haubenstock-Ramati was also a designer and painter.
