Kevin D. Randle

Kevin D. Randle

Dr. Kevin D. Randle (1949-), is a major in the Iowa National Guard, as well as a prominent ufologist. Within the UFO Community he is often regarded as one of the leading experts on the reported crash of a UFO near Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947.

Background

Randle was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming to an Episcopalian family. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology. He also holds a doctorate in psychology from California Coast University. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was a US Army helicopter pilot. He has also served as an intelligence officer in the US Army. In addition to his UFO research, Randle has written over 80 novels, including several science fiction novels, under such pseudonyms as Eric Helm, James Butler Bonham, B.R. Strong, and Cat Brannigan. Mr. Randle is married and has no children.

UFO Work

Randle became a UFO investigator for the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (APRO) in the 1970s. He has also worked as a "special investigator" for the Center for UFO Studies, based in Evanston, Illinois. To date he has published more than a dozen books and fifty magazine articles dealing with the UFO phenomenon. Although he believes that alien spacecraft have visited the Earth, he is skeptical of many aspects of the UFO mystery, especially the alien abduction phenomenon, and he has written numerous critiques of alien abduction stories. He is also skeptical of the authenticity of the infamous Majestic-12 papers, which are supposedly U.S. government documents from a top-secret government agency designated to deal with UFOs and aliens. In Randle's opinion, the papers are forgeries. His primary area of expertise, and interest, is the now-famous crash of a UFO near Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947 (see Roswell UFO Incident). Randle was one of the first ufologists to investigate the case, and he remains a strong supporter of the theory that an alien spacecraft crashed on a ranch outside the city. His 1991 book, "UFO Crash at Roswell", was developed into the 1994 movie "Roswell" for the Showtime television network. In a position statement Randle writes: "I believe that we have been visited by extraterrestrial creatures. I base that conclusion on my research into the Roswell UFO crash, my interviews with the men and women involved on that case, and the limited documentation available." However, Randle also states that "I believe that the visitations have been extremely rare. Most of the information circling in the UFO field today has little factual base. Many of the subsets of ufology...have little or no factual basis. They are made of hoaxes, lies, fabrications, misidentifications, and anonymous and useless documents."
