West Indian cricket team in England in 1923

A West Indian side toured England in 1923, winning six and losing 7 first class matches.

It was a cold, damp summer and the tourists struggled in the unfamiliar conditions but George Challenor of Barbados impressed with the bat, scoring 6 centuries. George Francis (cricketer), another Bajan, had a fine tour with the ball, taking 10 wickets against Surrey CCC (and scoring 41) in a 10 wicket triumph for the visitors. Francis was highly regarded for his 'old fashioned' fast bowling in that he aimed at the stumps, rather than adopting the newly fashionable 'off theory'.
