Grady Reddick

Grady Reddick

Grady K. Reddick (born February 5, 1954) is an attorney and currently serves as Judge of the State Court of Screven County. He was born in Sylvania, Georgia and graduated from Georgia Southern College and John Marshall Law School. Before serving as judge, he practiced law at Reddick & Reddick in Springfield, Georgia. He gained his first judgeship as the Municipal Court Judge for the City of Springfield in 1981. His brother R Edward Reddick Jr served as Effingham County State Court Judge from 1970 until retiring in 2003. Reddick's wife, Janis, currently serves as the Clerk of the Superior Court for Screven County, a position she was elected to in 2000. He was elected in 1988 as the Solicitor for the State Court of Screven County and was appointed as the Judge for the State Court of Screven County by former governor Zell Miller in 1991 to replace the retiring Harry Hunter, a position Reddick held until 1996.

1996 Campaign for Superior Court Judge

In 1996, he vacated his State Court Judgeship and made an unsuccessful bid for the Superior Court Judgeship of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit to replace the retiring William J. Neville. Despite carrying Effingham, Screven and Jenkins counties, he was defeated circuit-wide by Bulloch County State Court Judge John R. Turner of Statesboro, Georgia. Turner carried 81% of voter rich Bulloch County.

2000 Campaign for Superior Court Judge

In 2000, he made another run for the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judgeship that was being vacated by the retiring Faye S. Martin. He was defeated circuit-wide by Bulloch County State Court Judge Gates Peed of Statesboro, Georgia. Reddick managed to carry his home county as well as Effingham County, but Peed rode a wave of votes in more populated Bulloch County to coast to victory in the four county Ogeechee Judicial Circuit. That same year, he was appointed as Judge of the Municipal Court for the City of Sylvania by the Sylvania City Council and his wife won a run-off election to become the Clerk of the Superior Court of Screven County.

2004 Campaign for State Court Judge

In 2004, he ran for the State Court Judgeship in Screven County and defeated incumbent Lisa Gross of Newington (55% to 45%). Reddick carried all of the county's precincts except Newington, Jenk Hill and Foy's store. At his voting precinct, the Old Academy Gym, Reddick received nearly 70% of the vote.
