Easiest route=Cabeço Gordo (Portuguese for "fat head") is the highest mountain on the island of Faial in the
Azores . The entire island is a massivestratovolcano with a large 2-km widecaldera . The floor of the caldera is about 400 m lower than the rim. The volcano is inactive since the last eruption of1957 /1958 , which createdCapelinhos .Cabeço Gordo, due to its central nature, is part of each parish on the island (except for Matriz, Conceição and Angustias). From Cabeço Gordo, on a clear day, the other three islands of the central group of the Azores are visible: Pico, Sao Jorge and Graciosa.
