The Earlies are a band formed by Christian Madden and Giles Hatton from Lancashire, and Brandon Carr and John Mark Lapham from the United States. They are notable for blending elements from a wide range of musical genres having been described as both "a very English kind of folk-psychedelia...with a smattering of Beach Boys harmonies" by "The Independent", [ cite web |last=Harley |first=Kevin |title=The Earlies, Scala, London - It's time to rise and shine |publisher="The Independent" |date=2004-10-28 |url=http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/reviews/article30732.ece |accessdate=2008-07-18 ] and "country-meets-prog-meets-electronica symphonies" by "The Guardian". They are also notable for comprising a very large live line-up, of 11 members , who play an eclectic range of instruments, including flutes, a tuba, a cello and synthesizers alongside the more traditional rock instruments of guitars and drums.

Early days

In the late 90s, prior to his Earlies days, John Mark Lapham released ambient electronic music under the name Autio on a Manchester label Beatnik Records. Giles Hatton also recorded as Atomic Clock for the same label.
