Old Independence Party

Old Independence Party

The Old Independence Party was an Icelandic political party. The Old Independence Party langsum and the Old Independence Party þversum denote two fractions that split the party at one time.

The party dissolved in 1927 and its members mostly divided between the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party. However, in 1929, the Conservative Party and Liberal Party merged. The new party was named the Independence Party, which purposefully evoked the name of the defunct Old Independence Party.
