The company was founded in 1937 in
London under the name "Radiospares" selling spare parts forradio s. Whentelevision s became popular (and proved as unreliable as radios), television parts were added to Radiospares' product list. By the end ofWorld War II , the company had evolved into a large national distribution company. In 1954, the founders of Radiospares expanded the company's focus from shops and home users to the industrial sector. This process was completed in the1960s .In 1971, the company changed its name from "Radiospares" to "RS Components".

RS Components is a catalogue-based distributor of electronic, electrical and industrial components to
engineers in theUnited Kingdom , most ofEurope andAsia . RS has a long standing reputation for providing top notch technical support for it`s products with a team of several hundred (worldwide) engineers.Customers are served by local warehouses in each region. In addition, RS Components' facilities in the UK provide some products directly to
Europe . The countries of South-EastAsia are served by a hub inSingapore . The company also has a warehouse inShanghai .In 2003, RS Components was awarded the E-Business Strategy of the Year award by the UK National Business Awards.
