The original congregation was mostly German.

The church is home to Big Joe, the largest swinging bell which was ever cast in the United States. It was cast by the Vanduzen Company in 1895. It gets its name from Joseph T. Buddeke, the parishioner who presented the bell to the church. When it was first rung the vibrations broke nearby windows. Since then it has been rung by an oversized hammer.

This is an active Parish.
