Idutywa is a
town in theEastern Cape of South Africa, formerly part of theTranskei bantustan . It is the birthplace ofThabo Mbeki , who becamePresident of South Africa in 1999. The town was founded in 1858 as a military
fort after a dispute between aKwaZulu-Natal raiding party and local people.
