Randy Beckman

Randy K. Beckman is a high school football coach who has won multiple state titles and compiled a record of 171-21 during 17 years of coaching varsity football in the state of West Virginia. He won three state titles at Poca High School (1989, 1991, 1992) and also won two state titles at Man High School (1997, 1999). Beckman was known for his strict discipline and somewhat unorthodox rules when it came to team practices. Among his revolutionary ideas was the "no mouthpieces in practice" rule. Beckman also did not allow certain padding in different places on the body during practice. He was quoted as saying "One is not a football player without pain. If one doesn't experience pain then they haven't experienced football. My players are going to get the full football experience". Also, was known to show inspirational movies, but with a twist. One of the tales most talked about was when he showed his team an inspirational movie while requiring each player to put a leech on his stomach during the movie. No player was allowed to remove the leech from their body until the movie ended. The following week Poca won their second state championship in three years with many players crediting the movie experience with their success.
