The Brown University Mock Trial team is among the few non-athletic organizations engaged in intercollegiate competitions at
Brown University , anIvy League university. Brown's Mock Trial team is a registered member of theAmerican Mock Trial Association [http://collegemocktrial.org American Mock Trial Association (Official Website)] ] (AMTA) and competes at official AMTA tournaments throughout the year, preparing its members for a future career in trial advocacy. Brown University itself has no law school, and the team has no coach and no faculty advisor. Within the structure of Brown University, the Mock Trial team is a Category III organization registered with the Student Activities Office [http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Student_Activities/ Brown University Student Activities Office] ] and receives funding from Brown's Undergraduate Finance Board.Leadership
The Brown Mock Trial Team is a student-run organization with no permanent faculty advisor and no attorney coach. Leadership is determined by general body elections annually. All training, coaching, and administrative work are the students' responsibility.

The team has sent at least one team to a national
American Mock Trial Association tournament for the past six years. In 2007 the team placed second place atHamline University 's Silver Tournament Kohler Division [http://www.collegemocktrial.org/mock/results_nationals.php?season=2006-2007 AMTA National Results 2006-2007 Season] ] , earned a bid to the Championship Tournament at Stetson University, and placed within the top 5% of the nation's college teams, placing in the top 28 out of a pool of 560 teams registered with AMTA [ [http://www.collegemocktrial.org/mock/results_nationals.php?season=2006-2007 ib id.] ] .Composition
The Mock Trial organization is composed of undergraduates of all years and various majors (Mathematics, Chemistry, International Relations, Economics, History, Biology, etc.), and depending on the membership sends two to four separate teams every year to any given tournament [ [http://students.brown.edu/mocktrial/index.php?pageID=about Brown University Mock Trial--About] ] . Students are assigned the duty of performing a witness character or acting as a trial attorney (or both).
