Sreekumaran Thampi

Sreekumaran Thampi, born in Haripad (Town of Temple), in Alappuzha District, is a genius lyricist and a versatile Film Director, Producer and Scenarist in Malayalam Film Industry. Sreekumaran Thampi, was introduced to the Malayalam film industry by P. Subramaniam as a lyricist in the film "Kaatumallika", has the unique record of having produced 22 films, directing 29, and writing scripts for 78 films in Malayalam besides writing thousands of super hit songs.

Sreekumaran Thampi is widely known as "Hrudaya Ragangaluday Kavi" (Poet of Love Songs) as majority of his songs invokes amorous notions and romantic moods. Sreekumaran Thampi is known for his obstinate and uncompromised attitude to alter his creations and stays guided with his principles. When his own Novel, Kakkathampuratti, was made into film, the producer wanted to alter the end of the story, but he did not heed to it. He also stands opponent to the existing trend in Malayalam films of writing lyrics to the pre-designed music. He is unwilling to write lyrics to the pre-designed music as he stands in the principle of ‘One has to write lyrics that suit the screenplay; Lyrics must be part of the story. Sreekumaran Thampi is known for consciously strove to make his songs blend with the scene and also touch it with the muse's wand.
