The Japanese 13th Army was formed on
23 September 1939 under the control of theChina Expeditionary Army . It was based inShanghai and surrounding provinces primarily agarrison force to deter the possible landings of theAllies of World War II in the lowerYangtze River area of east central China. It surrendered to the ChineseKuomingtang forces on15 August 1945 with thesurrender of Japan and was disbanded in Shanghai.List of Commanders
