Edward Crossland (
June 30 ,1827 -September 11 ,1881 ) was aUnited States Representative fromKentucky . He was born inHickman County, Kentucky were he completed preparatory studies. He studiedlaw , was admitted to the bar in 1852, and began practice atClinton, Kentucky . He served assheriff of Hickman County in 1851 and 1852.Crossland was member of the
Kentucky House of Representatives in 1857 and 1858. During theAmerican Civil War , he enlisted as captain in the First Kentucky Regiment,Confederate Army . He was elected colonel of the Seventh Kentucky Regiment and served until the end of the war. After the war, he was elected judge of the court of common pleas of the first judicial district of Kentucky in August 1867 for six years, but resigned November 1, 1870.Crossland was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second and Forty-third Congresses (March 4, 1871-March 3, 1875). After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law in
Mayfield, Kentucky . He was elected judge of the circuit court for the first judicial district of Kentucky in August 1880 and served until his death in Mayfield, Kentucky in 1881. He was buried in Maplewood Cemetery.References
