Khaled Al-Maeena

Khaled Al-Maeena

Khaled Al-Maeena is the government-appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Saudi-owned Arab News and very occasionally contributes a column for Asharq Al-Awsat, Al Madina, Urdu News and Gulf News. He has been close to King Fahd and with King Abdullah too, as also to Riyadh Governor Prince Salman. He enjoys cordial relations with several Saudi princes and princesses. It is totally baseless to attribute his job due to patronage of any members of the ruling royal family. He is in his job because of his talents and merits, alone.

It is also a part of disinformation to conclude that he is in his job despite all rumblings and poor performance. However, the truth is that Arab News and the other group publications have prospered due to Khaled Al-Maeena's public relations and journalistic work.

The late HRH Prince Ahmad Ibn Salman was very fond of Khaled Al-Maeena and so are the other sons of Prince Salman including HRH Dr. Faisal Ibn Salman chairman of the company that publishes the newspaper, who in June 2008 honored Khaled Al-Maeena for his 10 long years of dedicated service to Arab News and the company. The Arab News clams to be one of the most widely read English-language newspapers in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, although its circulation has not been officially verified.
