Stade Gilbert Brutus is a rugby league stadium located in Perpignan, in the South of France. The Stadium is currently able to hold attendances of up to 12,000 after extensive renovation work from 2005 to 2006 and will be able to hold 13,000+ after further renovation scheduled to be completed sometime during 2008 [http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_league/super_league/4995588.stm BBC SPORT | Rugby League | Super League | Catalans Q&A ] ] .

History

The Stade Gilbert Brutus was, during the 1970s and 1980s a heavily used ground by both rugby league and rugby union clubs in the .

Expansion

Prior to 2007 the Stade Gilbert Brutus could only hold a total of 4,200 individuals and contained 900 seats [ [http://www.worldstadia.com/ws/show-page.php?menuCommand=stadium&menuData=1064 worldstadia.com:: Gilbert Brutus, Perpignan> View Stadium ] ] ; this was deemed inadequate for the Catalans Dragons, so the Dragons decided upon using the Stade Aimé Giral for 2006. It had always been the Catalan clubs plan to use Gilbert Brutus as their home ground prior to gaining admission into Super League and so construction to the stadium began in 2006 with the aim of bringing the Stadium to a total capacity of 14,000.

At the completion of the 2006 season construction and new stands had brought Gilbert Brutus' capacity up to 12,000. Further construction is planned at the conclusion of the 2007 season to bring the stadium to a total capacity of 14,000.
