Malvathu Oya

Malvathuoya,a river of historic significance in Sri Lanka, connecting the ancient sea port Mahathitha (Mannar) ( see History of Sri Lanka) to Anuradhapura, the capital of Sri Lanka for 15 centuries. Mavathuoya is also the second longest river in Sri Lanka. The northern part of the river, and sometimes the whole river, has also been known as AruviAru, a more recent Tamil allonym.
