Cohen, who stood at 5' 3-1/2", won the French bantamweight title in November 1953 and took the European championship three months later.
On September 19, 1954, he decisioned Chamrern Songkitrat in
Bangkok for the world title.Later that year, his marriage took place at the Synagogue de la rue des Tournelles, inParis , presided by RabbiDavid Feuerwerker .In January 1955, Cohen was stripped of his title by the
National Boxing Association for failing to defend it againstRaton Macias . Both theNew York State Athletic Commission and theEuropean Boxing Union continued to recognize Cohen as champion, however. [cite book
