The Ubuntu Education Fund is a nonprofit community organization founded in 1999 and based in the township of Zwide in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. With a 53 person staff, Ubuntu provides over 40,000 children, youth and adults with HIV services and essential educational resources.

Official mission

Ubuntu Education Fund is founded on the philosophy of ubuntu, a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. We have used this philosophy to create the Ubuntu Model – a community-based strategy that ensures ownership and sustainability of our health and education initiatives. The Ubuntu Model depends upon a close relationship between the organization and the communities it serves, allowing Ubuntu to design initiatives in close collaboration with parents, teachers, students and community leaders.

The Ubuntu Model for Development is based on 8 key Pillars:
* Community Involvement
* Accountability
* Legitimacy
* Evaluation
* Organizational Learning and Growth
* Sound Financial Management
* Creativity
* Long Term Thinking
