Fairfax Gill was a first class cricketer who played 2 matches for
Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1906.A right-handed middle order batsman, he made his debut against
Derbyshire CCC atQueen's Park, Chesterfield in June. He was run out for 1 and bowled byBilly Bestwick for 3 as Yorkshire won a tight game by 33 runs thanks to 9 wickets and a fifty fromGeorge Hirst . His second, and final game, came againstNottinghamshire CCC later the same month at Trent Bridge. He was bowled byJohn Gunn for 11 and then, promoted to open the innings, bowled byAlbert Hallam for 3 in a drawn match notable for twin centuries byDavid Denton .He also played for the Yorkshire Cricket Council in 1903 and Yorkshire Second XI in 1906.
He was born on September 3, 1883 in
Wakefield and died, aged just 34, on November 1, 1917 atWimereux , nearBoulogne-sur-Mer , France in theGreat War .References
