"The Council Of Chiefs" is a non-profit organization, that was created in honor of Chief Illiniwek at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2007. It has been in existence since 1926, when the First Chief Illiniwek came out. Fact|date=June 2007

The History of The Council of Chiefs

The Council's purpose is to protect and preserve the Chief Illiniwek tradition for all those who go to the University, and also those in the community. Fact|date=June 2007

The symbol

The initiator of the symbol has requested it back, which leads possibly to the opportunity for the Chief Illiniwek tradition to survive, even through the Council of Chiefs. Fact|date=June 2007
