Óscar Meléndez (born 1966) is a Puerto Rican who is a former member of
boy band Menudo.Meléndez is the cousin of the band's founder,
Edgardo Diaz . He and his two brothers, Carlos and Ricky, along with the Sallaberry brothers were the band's original members.Óscar Meléndez's era at Menudo was before the group became internationally famous. When Óscar was in the band, the group did, however, become famous in
Puerto Rico , theDominican Republic andVenezuela . The Puerto Rican public became familiarized with Óscar and the rest of the group by reading about them in magazines likeVea ,Teve Guia ,Estrellita ,Artistas and others.Óscar Meléndez participated at fiestas patronales almost every weekend as a member of Menudo. In addition, he participated on Menudo's channel 2's
television show. Óscar recorded seven albums with Menudo, including two Christmas Songs albums.Óscar Meléndez left the band just before Menudo became pop sensation in Central and South America. Nevertheless, he did participate on a few of Menudo's first hit songs, such as their Spanish version of
ABBA 's "Voulez Vous", "Fuego" and "Los Fantasmas".Óscar Meléndez has led a relatively quiet life after his years as a Menudo. Óscar is currently a partner at a San Juan law firm named Coto, Malley & Tamargo, LLP.
