Chrysocheres (also known as Chrysocheir or Chrysoverges, Greek: Χρυσόχειρ) (died 872) was a leader of the
Paulicians from 863 to 872. He succeeded his uncle,Karbeas , after the latter was slain inMichael III 's campaign against the Paulicians in 863. He led an expedition toNicomedia and Nicaea, and after takingEphesus , turned the church ofSt. John into a stable. This raid impelledBasil I to march on Tephrike, but Chrysocheres counterattacked and tookAncyra . In 872, Basil sent his son-in-law and the Domestic of the Schools, Christopher, against the Paulicians. With the help of anearthquake he razed Tephrike, took several other towns including Taranda, captured Chrysocheres, beheaded him, and sent his head back to the emperor inConstantinople .References
