Philip Burdon

Philip Burdon

Philip Ralph Burdon (born 1939) is a former New Zealand politician and lawyer by profession. He also farmed mushrooms. He was an MP from 1981 to 1996, representing the National Party. He was first elected to Parliament in the 1981 elections as MP for the Christchurch seat of Fendalton, and was re-elected for that seat until leaving Parliament at the 1996 elections.

Philip was the New Zealand Minister of Trade and State Owned Enterprises in 1996. At which time, he orchestrated the sale of the Ministry of Public Works to Malaysian firm Kinta Kellas. At the time of writing (2006), Philip Burdon is serving as a director on the privatised Ministry of Works, now called Opus International Consultants.

He is married to Rosalind Burdon, the daughter of Sir Bernard Waley-Cohen.
