- List of characters in Grand Theft Auto IV
A number of recurring characters appear in the
video game "Grand Theft Auto IV ", set circa 2008. The characters that appear in "Grand Theft Auto IV" are relatively diverse and relative to the respective boroughs ofLiberty City they are based in, belonging to various gangs and ethnic groups. The player controls Niko Bellic, an immigrant from Eastern Europe who was in the Yugoslavian war. According to Dan Houser, "virtually none of the characters from the previous games are returning, as a lot of them are dead anyway."cite|title=GTA 4 UK Exclusive|author=Official PlayStation Magazine|publisher=Future Publishing|date=May 2007]Unlike previous games in the series, the voice actors of "Grand Theft Auto IV" do not include notable and high-profile celebrities, instead opting for lesser known actors such as Michael Hollick, Jason Zumwalt, Moti Margolin,
Thomas Lyons ,Timothy Adams andCoolie Ranx . However, several high-profile DJs host the various radio stations within the game such asIggy Pop ,Karl Lagerfeld ,Juliette Lewis ,Daddy Yankee , and real life DJs likeDJ Green Lantern ,Lazlow , and real life comediansKatt Williams andRicky Gervais can be seen at the Comedy Club and also be heard being interviewed on the in-game radio station WKTT.For the first time in the series, "Grand Theft Auto IV" features "morality choices" in several points of the game, in which the player is forced to choose between killing or sparing a character, or killing one of two characters. The game also has two possible endings, which is determined by a decision the player makes with the main antagonist towards the conclusion of the storyline: Revenge or Deal. Each choice affects the missions the player can partake and the fate of some characters.
For the purposes of this list, missions specific to a particular ending in which a character is killed in are labeled "(Revenge)" and "(Deal)" respectively.

His father was a bully who never believed in him, but his mother, Milica Bellic, was very caring and felt sad that a decent person like Niko had to grow up in such a harsh place. He had a child brother who was killed during a school bombing during the war. Although his name is unknown it is apparent that he and Niko were close, and his death is partially responsible for Niko'scynical personality. Niko fought in theBosnian War as an "angry" teenager, where he witnessed and committed numerous atrocities which deeply affected him, giving him a cynical view on life and serious feelings of regret and depression. A defining moment in the war for Niko was when his army unit of fifteen young men (including him) were ambushed by the enemy. Niko barely escaped with his life, but most of his friends were killed - he later discovered that two others also survived. Realizing that one of them sold out the unit for money, Niko vowed to track down the culprit, not solely for revenge but because he needed closure, and that doing so would put his demons to rest.When the war ended, work was hard to come by for Niko. His cousin, Roman, moved to America to start a new life in Liberty City. Niko, knowing only violence most of his life, turned to the criminal underworld for the next ten years, while at the same time searching for the two men who survived the ambush. At some point during this interval, he briefly spent time imprisoned. Sometime after he was released, Niko joined a human trafficking ring run by Rodislav Bulgarin. Niko eventually discovered that Florian Cravic, one of the two survivors of the ambush, was living in Liberty City.
When a boat sank in the Adriatic during one smuggling run into
Italy , Niko managed to swim to safety, but everything else was lost. Bulgarin, needing someone to blame, accused Niko of sinking the boat and escaping with the money onboard. Niko denied this, but Bulgarin's decision was final and he was too powerful a figure to fight back against. Niko quickly joined the merchant navy and fled Bulgarin. He spent the next seven months at sea, befriending the crew of the "Platypus" and contemplating Roman's request for him to come to America. Roman had been asking Niko to come to Liberty City to share a new lifecite news |title=Grand Theft Auto IV |pages=64 |work=Ur magazine |publisher=Rogers |accessdate=2008-08-01] of money and women, which Niko wanted, but he mainly wanted to find Cravic and escape Bulgarin's wrath.Upon arriving in Liberty City, Niko realizes that Roman's prior tales of success were embellished; he actually lives in a tiny apartment, runs a small taxi depot and owes gambling debts across the city to several criminals. Niko ends up working for Roman, protecting his cousin from the loan sharks that keep harassing him. Roman soon loans Niko's services to friends and enemies alike, which angers Niko although he needs the money, and sets in motion the events of the game.
Niko's view of American culture is one of confusion and mild disgust. The rampant materialism annoys him and he has trouble relating to Roman's fascination with the country. Plus, after working for so many criminals, he feels that everyone in Liberty City is a crook.
Another prominent feature of Niko's character is his ability to bring people to reality in a very flat-out way: For instance, in the Revenge storyline, when he is chasing Pegorino's goons back to Pegorino, Roman and Jacob start commenting on Alderney, to which Niko says "I'm not taking you on some tourist "sight-seeing" cruise, we're chasing a scumbag back to his boss!" It is also noticable that, although the player has the option of getting him drunk and making him drive under the influence of alcohol, he does not smoke or take any drugs at any point - on one occasion, when Jacob offers him some marijuana, he refuses. Several times he also requests that Jacob puts out his joint, but each time he lets Jacob slide.

Michael Hollick . Hollick was paid about $100,000 for his voice acting and motion-capture work over the course of about 15 months from 2006 to 2008. Hollick was paid about $1,050 a day for his work on the game, about 50% more than the standardScreen Actors Guild -negotiated rate for actors, although he claimed it was still a fraction of the income he would get from a movie or TV-show performance, and that he was upset about not getting residuals from game sales, putting the blame on the union for not securing such agreements. Niko admits that Roman has indeed found some success in America because of Mallorie, Roman's longtime girlfriend whom he plans to wed.Later on in the game, his apartment and business are burned down by the Russian mafia, and as a result he sets up another taxi company in Bohan (which is the Liberty City version of the
Bronx ) with the insurance money. He then moves in with Mallorie, but is kidnapped again after a losing streak at a gambling den. It is revealed to be a trap by Dimitri to lure Niko there and have him killed, but that too fails and the cousins escape. Roman ultimately buys a penthouse in Algonquin, finally living the "American Dream". After the player gets his relationship high enough with Roman, the player may use his phone to have Roman send a taxi to take you anywhere for free, though the success/failure of having one available is dependent on the last time a taxi was requested, and the taxi driver is usually very rude to Niko (a date usually ends early if the player hitches a ride in one). During the game's finale, Roman attempts to persuade Niko into striking a deal with Dimitri Rascalov due to the amount of money involved. If Niko chooses the "Revenge" storyline, Roman is initially disappointed that Niko did not do the deal, but does not lament for long, as his wedding approaches. Unfortunately, the wedding is cut short when Pegorino shows up and guns Kate McReary down. Angered that Kate was killed at his wedding, Roman goes with Niko to help get revenge on Pegorino. Unfortunately, his assistance is short-termed as Niko, worrying about losing Roman after losing Kate, orders Little Jacob to get him into safety before a gunfight ensues and find an escape. In the "Deal" storyline, Roman is inadvertently killed at his wedding by an assassin sent by Dimitri, in an attempt on Niko's life. His special ability for being friends with Niko is selling him weapons and armor (with the exceptions of the rocket launcher and combat pistol), for lower prices than those offered by gun shops.A running joke throughout the game is that Jacob always chooses the wrong moment to light up and smoke a joint, at one point while accompanying Niko in a helicopter chase, much to Niko's initial dismay. Similarly, when Jacob gets in a car with Niko, the car windows start leaking thick smoke. Another joke is of his heavy Jamaican accent, which Niko can not understand sometimes. Little Jacob can also be seen in Team Mafiya Work, who needs to be picked up and taken to see a man, Kenny Petrovic describes him as "Small Jacob". Little Jacob drives a black and red Virgo.
No matter which final storyline Niko takes, Jacob on both occasions helps Niko go after the final boss.

Niko suspects that Brucie's macho behavior is due to hidden low self-esteem (Brucie mentions that he was picked on for being overweight as a child). When Niko later learns that the people he has been killing for Brucie was mainly due to Brucie'sroid rage , Niko ends their business relationship, but they continue as friends and Niko can continue stealing cars and participate in races for him. Once Niko's relationship with him is high enough, Brucie will provide free helicopter rides for him with the downside being that the helicopter might land farther away from the destination due to it needing a place to land. Dwayne Forge is the former mentor of Playboy X. He is 35 years old and an old school
African-American gangster who used to be a very influential and feared criminal. However, Dwayne confesses at one point that he wanted to be a police officer as a youth, but the LCPD did not, in the '70s and '80s approve of African American police officers. He also had trouble reading and writing due to a learning disability. Dwayne's father was an abusive, small-time criminal that was killed by drug dealers that he tried to rip-off, but Dwayne felt nothing when he learned of his death. Dwayne soon learned that a lot of money was to be had in the drug trade and that he was very good at intimidating people. He also found that, despite his difficulties reading, he was very good at the basic mathematics required for his trade. He soon became the leader of his own drug ring called the North Holland Hustlers. At the height of his power, Dwayne claims he rented out entire apartments just to have someplace to store all the money that his gang was accumulating.In 1998, Dwayne was arrested on crack distribution charges and sentenced to 9 years in prison. He was recently released, but is disturbed by the world of
bling and excess he's found in an underworld that was all about straight business when he left it over a decade ago. He is depressed that his menacing and powerful reputation has been forgotten, even finding out that his girlfriend Cherise left him for a known snitch named Jayvon Simson after Dwayne pulled strings from behind bars to pay her rent over the years. Feeling betrayed, Dwayne is also angry that Playboy X ignores him and excludes him from the gang's business, which is resorting to more high-profile crimes. Niko is paid by Playboy to work for Dwayne, and he ends up sympathizing with Dwayne's plight and helps him rebuild his reputation and influence. After Dwayne pays Niko to shut down a club that he used to own that was taken over by associates of Playboy X, Dwayne and Playboy X call Niko to kill one another, giving him a choice of who to kill. If the player kills Playboy X, Dwayne gives Niko the penthouse of his old protegé, he becomes Niko's friend, and you receive Claude's outfit from "GTA III". If the player kills Dwayne, Playboy X pays Niko but scolds him for killing his "father figure" and refuses to speak to him again. When hanging out with Dwayne, he complains about his hard knock life and comes off as very depressed - when drunk, he admits that he bottles up his emotions to maintain his tough persona. Niko eventually sternly tells Dwayne to stop lamenting about his past. Dwayne's special ability for being Niko's friend is sending two gangsters to Niko's location, who provide the player with backup. Packie has spent his whole life in Liberty City and has never been outside it, although he wishes to visit Ireland. Kate McReary, Packie's sister, shows an "interest" in Niko, but he warns him away from her at first – later in the game, he supports the coupling very much. He is also a close friend of Elizabeta Torres, leader of a small-time drug ring. When drunk, Packie loudly resents having to always take orders from his brother, Gerry. However, his rants (when sober and drunk) reveal a lot about the background of the McReary family. His special ability for being friends with Niko is providing him with specialized bombs, which can be attached to cars, and detonated with the cell phone and will not cause a wanted level, a brilliant weapon for assassinations. Kate McReary

Kate McReary is the only daughter in the McReary family. Packie says she is the only honest and good McReary sibling, and she's one of the few characters in the game who doesn't have a criminal record. Several of Packie's stories about the McReary family have to do with Kate witnessing several violent acts at a very young age, such as watching Gerry and Francis angrily beat each other up or catching Gerry return home with blood all over his clothes. She can be taken out on dates as with the other women in the game, but unlike the other girlfriends, Niko is unable to have a romantic relationship with her, thus, she will not let you in the house after a successful date, as Kate only considers Niko to be a friend.
If Niko chooses the "Deal" storyline, Kate sees that he will compromise his principles for money and refuses to go to Roman's wedding with him. However, after Roman's death, Kate offers her condolences and support to Niko. If he takes the "Revenge" storyline, she starts pursuing a romantic relationship with Niko. However, this is cut short when Jimmy Pegorino, who is enraged by Niko's betrayal and the failure of his drug deal, turns up at Roman's wedding and guns her down. Roman later says that if he and Mallorie have a daughter together, he will name her Kate to honor her memory.

Michelle, real name Karen, is Niko's first girlfriend. She eventually reveals that she is a government official and confiscates Elizabeta's cocaine. She works for U.L. Paper. After she reveals her true identity to Niko, she can no longer be dated. She is revealed to be a smoker and may also have a criminal past, as hinted by the boss at U.L. Paper.
Carmen Ortiz

Carmen is one of the female characters that Niko can date. She constantly refers to herself in third person, and is by all measures extremely self-important. If she is dated, she explicitly states that Niko is not the only man in her life, and implicitly makes it clear that her main goal is to obtain money, favour and possessions from her boyfriends. She is a nurse and can heal Niko over the phone. She can also be seen dancing with Elizabeta in a cutscene in Blow Your Cover.

He owns a bar called "Comrades" in his neighborhood which he frequents. He is an alcoholic and is shown snorting a vial of cocaine on one occasion. He even warns him to stay away from Mallorie. Still, Niko works for Vlad as a favor to Roman. After Niko learns that Vlad was cheating with Mallorie behind Roman's back, he is outraged, especially when Roman tries to convince him to let the matter lie. Despite Roman's attempts to talk him out of it, Niko rushes to Comrades and confronts Vlad. After a furious chase with Vlad, Niko shoots him under the Broker Bridge with a panicked Roman by his side, which gains the attention of Vlad's superior, Mikhail Faustin (though Mikhail thought of Vlad as an idiot and a liability). Mikhail Faustin is a major figure in Liberty City's
Bratva and the owner of the cabaret club "Perestroika". He is 45-years old and has a wife, Ilyena, and a daughter, Anna. He is first introduced when one of his henchmen abducts Niko and Roman for killing Vlad Glebov. In his rage, he kills his henchman and shoots Roman in the stomach for screaming too loudly. Due to alcohol and drug abuse, Mikhail goes through angry mood swings, which causes him to order hits on people for very minor things. This upsets his partner and old friend, Dimitri, who realizes that the numerous deaths are bad for business and attracts unwanted attention from the law. Things boil over when Mikhail, on a whim, orders Niko to kill Lenny Petrovic, the son of another major Bratva boss, Kenny Petrovic, as he suspects Lenny was a snitch. Dimitri sets up Niko to assassinate Mikhail, under the promise of protection from Kenny Petrovic to prove that the death should be blamed on Mikhail and that Niko was just a hired gun. Niko shoots Mikhail in the foot and then the chest on the roof of "Perestroika". Mikhail drives a black Schafter and a random colored Turismo. Little Jacob comes to Niko's rescue and mentions that Dimitri has escaped and they can deal with him another time. Dimitri orders his men to set fire to Roman's apartment and taxi depot, effectively running Niko and Roman out of Broker. The cousins escape to Bohan to avoid any further trouble, after receiving death threats from Dimitri via the phone. Dimitri attempts to kill Niko twice more, once by kidnapping Roman to lure Niko to a warehouse filled with his men, and another time by sending Bulgarin and his men to sabotage a hostage exchange between the McReary crime family (with Niko) and the Ancelotti crime family. Dimitri calls Niko after both attempts, furious that he was not killed and threatening future attempts on his life. Upon learning that Niko is helping Bernie Crane and Bryce Dawkins, whose double life Dimitri is trying to expose, Dimitri then suggests that he and Niko go back into business together to expose them.Towards the conclusion of the main storyline, the Pegorino crime family - whom Niko works for - enters an alliance with another organization to find a buyer for a large amount of
heroin that they stole earlier in the game, which would finally put the Pegorino crime family on the map. Dimitri's Russian mob is the other organization, putting Niko in an awkward position - the player has to make a choice of either picking up the money from the buyers Dimitri found or dealing revenge and killing him. If the player chooses to pursue "Revenge", Niko executes Dimitri in cold blood aboard his tanker. Afterwards, Don Jimmy Pegorino, furious after the betrayal, shows up at Roman and Mallorie's wedding and kills Kate McReary in revenge. If the player chooses to strike a "Deal", Niko and Phil Bell are assigned to pick up the money at one location while Dimitri sells the heroin at another location. Dimitri is seemingly joyous at learning that Niko is working for him again. Dimitri, deciding to keep the heroine, betrays the buyers at his end and kills them all, forcing Niko and Phil to kill the buyers at their location in order to get the money. They are successful and Niko gets $2.5 million. Dimitri betrays Niko soon after by sending a hitman to Roman's wedding to assassinate him, but Roman is inadvertently killed during the struggle then ensues. Niko tracks Dimitri and Pegorino down at an abandoned casino in Alderney and Dimitri executes Pegorino before escaping, not wanting to split the money with him. Niko pursues Dimitri to Happiness Island, before ensuing in a final confrontation in which he kills Dimitri, before the Statue of Happiness.Dimitri is voiced by

Manny Escuela is a Puerto Rican former hoodlum who has supposedly changed his ways, and wants to clean up the streets. He operates from a recreational center in a South Bohan housing project where he works as a dance instructor. He is currently recording a documentary explaining his struggles and problems. Manny hires Niko to kill criminals while Manny takes the credit. He gets upset with the final cut of the documentary, claiming it does not make him look "street." As a result, Niko becomes more annoyed of Manny running his mouth. He is killed along with his cameraman by Elizabeta Torres after he angers her by confronting her for new, more aggressive material for the documentary. The bodies are given to a doctor for the black market organ trade, which Niko finds ironic because Manny will finally help people, but in a very different way.

Elizabeta Torres is a successful small-time drug dealer in Bohan. However, she knows an upcoming drug crackdown is going to make her life very difficult and with her own narcotic use spiraling out of control she’s becoming increasingly paranoid and delusional. She introduces Niko to Packie McReary in the "Luck of the Irish" mission. She, in a drugged panic, shoots Manny and his cameraman Jay in the mission "Have a Heart" after he tries to film her as part of his documentary of the crime in Bohan. After Niko eliminates the bodies of Manny and his cameraman, he receives a call from Elizabeta saying that she's cutting off their relationship because the police are closing in on her. By using the police database website, the player can find out she is in police custody. According to news reports, and the in-game radio, Torres is found guilty of 30 charges of cocaine distribution, 10 years per charge, totalling 300 years in prison. It is also hinted that she may be a lesbian or bisexual.
She initially appeared in the third trailer and in the promotional artwork for the game. Although earlier renditions of the artwork depict her as much thinner than her final appearance it is shown on advertisement posters made by Rockstar Games that she is between 5'11-6'2" tall and may weigh between 200-225 pounds. It can also be found out that her age is 31 years old. Elizabeta drives a pink and white Voodoo. She lives in an apartment block on San Quentin Avenue in Fortside.

Trey "Playboy X" Stewart is an
African-American gangster who is 25 years old. He was introduced to Niko by Elizabeta and he owns a loft in North Holland. He was the protegé of Dwayne Forge, a drug baron and gang leader who was recently released from prison, but Playboy has since moved on without him, fully embracing the new criminal world of materialism that blurs on legitimate. He aspires to achieve things on a personal level first, with giving back to the community being a distant second. Despite this, Niko admits that Playboy pays well and always keeps his word. Playboy eventually pays Niko to work for Dwayne, mainly because he does not want to deal with Dwayne himself anymore. After Niko, on Dwayne's orders, kills the managers of a strip club that Playboy owns, Playboy realizes that his old mentor does not understand the new way business is done and that he is a hindrance to his organization - he asks Niko to kill him. Dwayne, sensing he is a target, asks Niko to kill Playboy. Niko must choose whom to kill. If the player kills Dwayne, Playboy pays Niko a large sum of money but scolds him for killing his "father figure" and refuses to speak to him again. If the player kills Playboy X, his flat in North Holland becomes a new safehouse for the player, you receive the "GTA III " outfit Claude wore, and Dwayne becomes a friend. Playboy's yellow Patriot may be a reference to the movieExit Wounds which prominently featured a similar vehicle. Francis first meets Niko briefly during a publicity shoot with Manny Escuela and later contacts Niko confidentially, wanting to pay him to silence those who wish to expose his corruption. He also knows that Niko killed Mikhail Faustin, but promises to not turn him in as further incentive for Niko's cooperation. Francis is, above all, a hypocrite; he believes that his position automatically makes him a good person and absolves him of all his corruption. The McReary family is fully aware of this - as a youngster, he became an altar server and stole the church collection plate, but believed the theft should be overlooked because he was an altar server. Francis attempted to become a priest but was kicked out of the church for cheating on his seminary exam, so he joined the LCPD instead. The only reason why Francis does not take down his own family is because his brother, Gerald, has a lot of dirt on Francis' past and will alert the authorities the moment Francis tries anything.
Francis eventually discovers that his older brother, Derrick, is back in Liberty City and believes that he will alert the press about Francis' corruption. He decides to take Derrick down by having Niko assassinate him while the brothers are talking on a bench in a park, much to Niko's anger and dismay. However, Niko has a choice of whom to kill. If Niko kills Derrick, Francis provides him with a more detailed online version of the suspect detail system. He will also remove a three star (or lower) wanted level if Niko calls him. Killing Francis changes the storyline slightly, and the dialogue of McReary family members. Francis drives a grey Landstalker. Francis McReary lives in a house on Savannah Avenue at Meadows Park, although he is never actually seen there in the storyline.

Ray Boccino is a high-ranking member of the Pegorino crime family. He once threw a man into a dump truck - which then crushed him to death - for holding out on a tribute. After being introduced to Niko by Packie McReary, Ray hires Niko for several jobs, mainly revolving around a huge diamond deal with Isaac Roth that ultimately fails. After completing a few missions for Ray, he gives Niko a safehouse in Alderney. In return for Niko's help, he helps locate Florian Cravic, the man Niko had tracked to Liberty City and suspects of betraying his old army unit. The diamond deal is not Ray's first failed large-scale venture, which upsets Don Jimmy Pegorino greatly - he believes that Ray is just a dumb thug that managed to survive long enough to climb the hierarchy and is not very good at organized crime. Ray also becomes slightly jealous of Niko as he gains more favor with the Don. Niko eventually kills him at the request of Pegorino, who thinks he is a rat. Ray drives a white Oracle.

Gerald "Gerry" McReary is the boss of the Liberty City
Irish Mob . He gives orders through his younger brother, Packie. Gerry is upset with the McReary Family's weakened state, which has them working as hired guns for the Pegorino family and other organizations, because they used to be the most powerful gang in the city. He does not trust Niko at first because he is not Irish, but changes his mind after Niko helps the McReary Family with a daring bank heist. Gerry then tasks Niko with attacking other criminal organizations to prove that the McReary Family still has power, but which also benefit his employer, Don Jimmy Pegorino. Gerry starts to grow a trust with Niko asking him to help watch over the family while he's in prison. Throughout the course of the game, he is released from prison and subsequently rearrested on charges such as armed robbery and racketeering. Despite being incarcerated, Gerry still gives thinly veiled orders to Niko revolving around the kidnapping of Gracie Ancelotti to barter for diamonds that the Ancelotti family stole from Ray Boccino. Although Packie initially believes that the charges against Gerry will be dropped, Gerry hints to Niko that he will be in prison for a very long time.Derrick McReary

Derrick McReary is yet another member of McReary Family and 51 years old, which makes him the oldest. He has a drug and alcohol problem, so Packie asks Niko to keep an eye out for his brother's safety. Derrick has recently returned from
Ireland where he assisted theProvisional Irish Republican Army in fighting the British, but his other brother, Francis, says that Derrick actually fled there to lay low because he ripped off powerful mobsters in Liberty City. Two of Derrick's old friends, Bucky Sligo and Aiden O'Malley, believed that Derrick snitched on them to the authorities and constantly threatened him and his family as result, despite Derrick's claims of innocence. The accusations from his former friends caused him tremendous grief and fueled his drug addictions. If Niko hangs out with Packie enough, he will eventually reveal that Derrick actually did snitch on Bucky and Aiden.Derrick seems to be the most compassionate of all the McReary children, as is shown with the way he tries to calm down the bank staff and customers during the heist. When Francis discovers that Derrick is back in town, he worries that he will reveal Francis' corruption to the press for money. He talks with Derrick in a park as part of an attempt to use Niko to kill him, thinking that he must go outside the law to take down his brother. Niko has a choice of who to kill. The player does not receive anything from Derrick for killing Francis.
Bernie Crane / Florian Cravic

Bernie Crane, real name Florian Cravic, is the person that Niko tracked down to America. He served with Niko in the Bosnian War and is one of the two men that Niko suspects betrayed his old army unit. In return for Niko's help, Pegorino Crime Family Capo Ray Boccino locates a man named Talbot Daniels that knows Cravic, who leads Niko to Cravic's apartment. After a tense encounter, during which a terrified Florian accuses Niko of the very same betrayal Niko is about to take revenge for, Niko soon realizes that Cravic is not the culprit. While Roman references that Florian used to work in an abbatoir, after coming to America Cravic changed his name to Bernie and reworked his life, becoming a very flamboyantly effeminate gay man that works as a
life coach and an aerobics instructor. He is in a relationship with Liberty City's deputy-mayor, Bryce Dawkins (who ironically built his campaign on family values), which Dimitri Rascalov (Niko's nemesis) is trying to expose to the public. At first, Niko is annoyed when Bernie begs him for help, admonishing him to 'not be a fag'. However, Niko's friendship with him grows based on their shared experience before coming to America. Bernie is amazed that Niko is still haunted by the betrayal that occurred so many years ago, which Roman says is proof that Niko needs to let go of the past and move on. However, Bernie is more sympathetic to Niko than Roman, as he went through the same experience himself. Bernie eventually gives Bryce's sports car to Niko as a thank-you gift, claiming he 'only power-walks or takes cabs'. If Niko does not kill Darko Brevic, Bernie congratulates him afterwards for finally losing his desire for revenge. He attends Roman and Mallorie's wedding. Bernie lives in an apartment on Ivy Drive South. Despite Niko's help, images of Bryce Dawkins kissing Bernie are leaked somewhere else.Phil Bell

Philip "Phil" Bell is the front operator for the Pegorino crime family in Alderney. Phil maintains that he is a legitimate businessman, managing construction yards and the Pegorino-owned Honker's Gentleman's Club based in Tudor. The authorities have his places of business bugged, so he speaks in generalities that will not implicate him in anything and he is always extra cautious with his planning. His caution often puts him at odds with capo Ray Boccino, who is far more daring with his crimes. Although Don Jimmy Pegorino says Phil is his best associate, he is also 90% Irish and that fact is frowned upon by the Five Families. Ironically, Phil may be having an affair with Pegorino's wife Angela, but Pegorino does not believe the rumors. In fact, Pegorino chooses to whack Ray instead of Phil, who is merely an associate in the organization, when he believes one of the two is a snitch. Phil is divorced and is very bitter at his ex-wife, who won full custody of his children.
Phil also serves as something of a conscience / premonition during the game, engaging in discussions with Niko about decisions and following orders, a few missions before Niko has to decide first whether to kill Darko Brevic, and later whether to follow Pegorino's orders or take revenge. If the player chooses the "Revenge" storyline near the end of the game, the Pegorino crime family is dealt a serious blow, so Phil decides to leave the dying organization. Despite that, he tells Niko that he made the right decision by killing Dimitri. If the player chooses the "Deal" storyline, Phil will join Niko for the deal. The two end up shooting their way to the money due to Dimitri killing the heroin buyer at another location. Phil drives a grey Intruder.

The Fixer makes not appearances in the actual storyline, but is heard quite often on the telephone. The Fixer's number was given to Niko by Pegorino. The Fixer orders the assassination of several different targets in return for money. The LCPD database suggests that his real name is Wade Johnson and he is from Texas.
Jimmy Pegorino

Don James "Jimmy" Pegorino (nicknames include "The Peg," "Jimmy P" etc) is a mobster heavily involved in drugs distribution, head of the Alderney based Pegorino crime family. The Pegorinos also have an hangout in Little Italy, the "Drusilla's Ristorante". Jimmy Pegorino's main goal is to see his crime family being named part of the Liberty City Cosa Nostra "Commission". The main five families of Liberty City (The Ancelotti, Pavano, Messina, Gambetti and Lupisella Crime Syndicates) think that the Pegorinos are nothing more than a South Alderney gang. Pegorino had a son who killed himself, so he considers his bodyguard Anthony Corrado the closest thing he has to a son. Niko quickly becomes his favourite hitman.
Pegorino appears in the final mission seeking Niko's help in selling off heroin that his organization had acquired. However, the police are closing in on the family's activities, so he needs to sell it off. Pegorino enters an alliance with Dimitri Rascalov, who finds buyers for the heroin. In the "Revenge" storyline, with the deal ruined due to Niko killing Dimitri, the Pegorino crime family is all but finished. Pegorino, enraged that he was double-crossed by his favourite hitman, kills Kate McReary at Roman's Wedding, thus taking the role of the
final boss of the game. Niko tracks him down to an abandoned casino. Jimmy escapes in a speedboat and Niko chases him in a motorbike and helicopter to Happiness Island, where Niko confronts him. Niko taunts Pegorino by saying that he knows some of the members of the Five Families and that they all thought that " [Jimmy] was a fat, fucking joke," and laughing. When Pegorino rises up and raises his pistol, Niko shoots him in the head with an AK-47. The game ends with the camera panning onto a view of the Statue of Happiness. Niko then gets the $2.5 million that he would've got had he done the deal. In the "Deal" storyline, the deal goes through and the Pegorino crime family gains power and money, but Pegorino is betrayed and killed by Dimitri, who wants to keep everything for himself. Jimmy drives a black Shafter. He lives in a mansion on a hill on Beaverhead Avenue in North Alderney, which is taken over by Kenny Petrovic after his death.Jimmy is voiced by

Jonathan Gravelli is the old school and well-connected Don of the Gambetti crime family. He has many politicians in his pocket and does not approve of foreign crime taking hold of Liberty City. The aging Gravelli is currently a patient in Schottler Medical Center for an unknown illness, which has taken a large toll on his health. Regardless, Niko and Gravelli seem to share a nihilistic, grim sense of humour. Gravelli is introduced to Niko via cellphone through the boss at U.L. Paper, who is only referred to as a "mutual friend," and it seems both are allies due to their mutual goal of ridding the country of illegal activities committed by foreign crime syndicates. It is through Gravelli and U.L. Paper's assistance that Niko is able to have Darko Brevic, the man who betrayed his army unit, delivered to him. After Niko has taken his revenge on Dimitri Rascalov or Jimmy Pegorino, Jon Gravelli, Don of the Gambetti crime family passes away in the hospital, prior to standing trial.

Mallorie Bardas-Bellic
"Introduced in: "It's Your Call"
Mallorie Bardas-Bellic, is the 29 year old Puerto Rican girlfirend, later wife, of Roman Bellic. Mallorie is Roman's girlfriend for the first part of the storyline (although she secretly sees Vlad Glebov before Niko kills him) before becoming his fiancée. One of her cousins owns an apartment in Bohan which Niko and Roman seek refuge in after Roman's apartment and taxi depot are set on fire and destroyed. Towards the conclusion of the storyline, Mallorie and Roman wed, however in the "Deal" storyline ending her new husband is gunned down outside the church and she becomes widowed. In both storylines, it is revealed that she is pregnant. Prior to the ending of the "Revenge" storyline, Roman contacts Niko both revealing Mallorie's pregnancy and that he has chosen to name his possible daughter Kate, in honour of Kate McReary.
Mallorie's maiden name is credited as "Ramos" in the European Xbox 360 instruction manual, but is correctly credited "Bardas" in the Playstation 3 instruction manual and manuals in other regions.

Darko Brevic is the man who betrayed Niko Bellic's old army unit. As a reward for all of Niko's help, Jon Gravelli and the United Liberty Paper track down Darko in
Bucharest , Romania. They kidnap him and bring him to Liberty City where Niko confronts him, discovering that Darko has a drug addiction and that he betrayed his unit for a mere $1,000 in order to buy drugs, and implies that he wanted to get revenge for some of the unit murdering his neighbours. During the time that has since passed, his addiction has worsened from his overwhelming guilt. Darko begs Niko to kill him, freeing him from his demons. The player is given the choice of killing him or sparing his life (Roman tries hard to make Niko let him live). If the player spares Darko, Niko initially becomes angry at his decision and admits that "it took every fibre of my being pulling in the same direction not to kill Darko," but decides that kiling Darko would not have changed anything and that allowing him to suffer is a worse punishment than death. Both Roman and Bernie congratulate him for finally releasing his inner demons and overcoming his desire for revenge. If the player chooses to kill Darko, he thanks Niko with his dying breath and Niko does not feel any better.Cherise Glover

Cherise Glover was Dwayne's longtime girlfriend. Before he went to prison, he gave Cherise everything she wanted. While he was in jail, Dwayne even managed to pull some strings to help Cherise pay her rent. Upon release however, he learns that Cherise has forgotten him and is dating Jayvon, a known snitch, and they have been spending Dwayne's money together. Niko volunteers to get Dwayne's money back and kill Jayvon. Upon approaching Cherise and Jayvon, the player can choose to either kill Cherise or let her live. If the player executes Cherise, Dwayne calls her a bitch. If the player lets Cherise live, Dwayne tells Niko that while he thinks that Cherise is an idiot, he is glad she is not dead.
Later in the game, the player may bump into Cherise on the streets, who tells Niko her new boyfriend hits her. Upon hearing this, Niko goes to the boyfriend's house and intimidates him, warning him never to go near Cherise again. However, the boyfriend can also be killed by Niko, to which Cherise fearfully responds by calling Niko a maniac and running away, telling him to stay away from her. From there Dwayne calls Niko hearing rumours that they've been together. Niko clears things up and tells him it was just a favour and nothing more.
Clarence Little

Clarence Little is a drug dealer based in East Holland. Niko is sent to kill him by Francis McReary. His life can be spared if the player chooses, only for Clarence to appear later (as a "random character") and attempt to kill Niko, forcing him to kill him.
Real Badman
"Introduced in: "Shadow"
Teafore "Badman" Maxwell-Davies is a Caribbean
cannabis dealer and an associate of Little Jacob. He speaksJamaican Patois , as opposed to Jacob's Rastafarian English. As a result, Jacob acts as his translator. He is introduced to Niko in the mission "Shadow" when he complains about another dealer moving in on his turf. He asks Niko to get rid of these dealers for him so he can continue business as usual. After "Shadow", he can be met on the streets as a "random character mission", where he and Niko go to take out a gang of rivaling drug dealers. When riding with Jacob, he sometimes talks about Badman growing paranoid due to his marijuana consumption (noting that while they consume the same amount, the effects on Badman are a lot more intense), expressing concern that he doesn't want to get in his way. Niko suggests that Jacob convince him to stop taking as much, but Jacob mentions another criminal, nicknamed "Grandfather," who was the only man able to calm Badman down, and who has since retired to Jamaica. Regardless of this, Badman appears at Roman's and Mallorie's wedding among the guests.He is voiced by Seeborn.

Later, he reappears when Ray asks Niko to proceed in the diamond deal with Isaac, and Niko expresses his hope that the deal goes better than the previous one; predictably, the deal goes wrong, and Johnny escapes and disappears with two million dollars in cash, and Niko is sent after to find and eliminate his friends.
Young-Guk Kim

Young-Guk Kim is the son of a North Korean friend of Derrick McReary and the leader of the Korean Mob based in Alderney City, Derrick and Niko help him out by taking down people who were shooting at him while he was trying to smuggle conterfeit bills. Niko later kills him under orders from Jimmy Pegorino and Jon Gravelli.

Mohammad is a
South Asian taxi driver in his late thirties employed under Roman and is the one who drives Niko around when he gains free taxi rides as Roman's friendship ability. He at first picks Niko up in one of Roman's Esperanto taxis, but upgrades to an Cavalcade (the game version of aCadillac Escalade ) right after Roman buys a new safehouse in Algonquin. He is usually rude and hates Roman for his bad pay and Niko because of the free rides Roman lets him have. Mohammad usually calls Niko a "dog lover". Mohammad admits the only reason he works for Roman is to meet girls and to get his wife to shut up and usually cheats on her with his female customers although he insists he loves his wife. It is hinted in a conversation with him that he has six kids. (His wife hasn't had any yet, but he estimates that with all of the adulterous acts he commits, he probably has around that number.) Tommy is the bartender at Honker's Club in Tudor. He is told by Phil Bell to let him know if Jimmy Pegorino calls to tell him to collect a van in Leftwood so they could use it to collect drugs from the Rascalov Crew. He is last seen in the cutscene "One Last Thing" giving Niko "vodka on the rocks".
Jay Hamilton

Jay is Manny Escuela's cameraman. His camera is smashed by Niko in "Escuela of the Streets". Later, on the mission "The Puerto Rican Connection", Manny's film is ready, but Manny complains that Jay made him look "

Rodislav Bulgarin

Rodislav "Ray" Bulgarin is a Russian
mobster who used to be in charge of a human trafficking ring across the Mediterranean Sea. As Niko's former boss, he now runs the Bulgarin Crew. Early in the game, Bulgarin discovers that Niko has fled to America and forms an alliance with the Liberty City Bratva and Dimitri Rascalov. Bulgarin claims that Niko stole money from him and fled during a smuggling run, though Niko claims to have escaped simply to avoid being arrested. Bulgarin does not believe this and orders his men to kill Niko, but Niko escapes with Little Jacob's assistance. In the latter half of the storyline, Bulgarin disrupts a ransom made by the McReary family for the life of Gracie Ancelotti. One of Bulgarin's henchmen discards the ransom diamonds into a rubbish truck, and in-game media later report that the diamonds were found in a rubbish dump by a homeless man. Bulgarin isn't seen again after this and it is unknown what happened to him.Kenny Petrovic

Kenneth Petrovic is a South Broker based Russian Mob boss. While not seen in the singleplayer portion of the game, he is described as possibly the most powerful Russian Mob boss in the country. His organization is seemingly at peace with the Faustin crew until Faustin orders Kenny's son killed. Kenny is prepared to go to war and kill all those responsible, but Dimitri strikes a deal with him in which Niko would kill Mikhail. Kenny appears in the main storyline as a guest at Perestroika watching the cabaret, sitting to the right of the stairs and shakes Dimitri's hand and tells him that a certain thing has been done for him while he was about to sit back down at his table.
He is prominent, in the multiplayer aspect of the game. He appears in the multiplayer missions "Mafiya Work" and "Team Mafiya Work". In these missions, the player works for Petrovic and takes his orders, protect him from rival mobsters and take care of Kenny's "black list." He also appears in the multiplayer missions, "Deal Breaker", "Bomb Da Base II", and "Hangman's N.O.O.S.E." as the player's boss.
Lenny Petrovic

Leonid Petrovic is the son of Kenny Petrovic and working for Mikhail Faustin. He is suspected of betraying Faustin and Niko is, on a whim, ordered to kill him. After assassinating Lenny, Dimitri reveals that only by killing Faustin can Niko be spared by Kenny Petrovic for killing his son.
Ivan Bytchkov

Ivan Bytchkov is a Russian burglar based in Hove Beach. Vlad Glebov orders Niko to execute him by Mikhail Faustin's command. Ivan can be killed or left alive. If left alive, he is later encountered on the streets. Ivan is engaged, lives in Alderney, and has a new job as a "money lender." Niko helps Ivan collect a debt from several thugs who choose not to repay him.
Andrei
"Introduced/Killed in: "Crime and Punishment"
Andrei is a member of the Faustin crew. He was sent out to find Niko and Roman. He finds Roman hiding in a dumpster near Faustin's cabaret club and knocks out Niko with his gun. When Andrei and Dimitri Rascalov are holding the cousins in Faustin's basement, Mikhail Faustin comes downstairs and shoots Andrei in the head, killing him. Dimitri laments Andrei's death in the mission "Do You Have Protection?".
Ilyena Faustin

Ilyena Faustin is the wife of Mikhail Faustin, and the mother of his daughter Anna. Ilyena has short blonde hair and seems to be in her mid 50's. She is a legal immigrant from Russia, and has a heart to heart talk with Niko. She is shown to be gentle and kind hearted, in contrast to her violent and aggressive husband (Not unlike Niko's mother, Milica Bellic). She is often abused by her husband and yelled at for continuing her Russian customs. After Faustin's death she is found at Firefly Island by Niko and tells him about how her life and financial situation has worsened as a result of Faustin's death. She also worries her daughter will become a stripper due to her hanging out with a suspicious man who is a member of "The Lost" biker gang. Niko, feeling guilty for causing Ilyena problems, goes to beat up the person who keeps harassing her daughter. Before he leaves to accomplish the task she begs him not to kill the man.
Anna Faustin

Anna Faustin is the daughter of Ilyena and Mikhail Faustin. Her father is constantly mad at her rebelling nature, and Anna seems to cause trouble to upset her dad. Ilyena often takes Anna's side and lets her go out and have fun when her father isn't home. It seems as though Anna wants to get out of her home because of the way her father treats her mother, and herself. Anna's boyfriend is killed after Mr. Faustin orders a hit on him (Niko being the hit-man). Her boyfriend was a biker gang member. Later on in the story she starts hanging out with another member of "The Lost" biker gang. This time her mother worries that she will become a stripper due to his influence. Niko leaves to beat him up.
Albanian gang members
Dardan Petrela

Dardan Pretela is the leader of the Albanian loan-sharks and also operates in a fence by selling stolen objects which is by said Roman when he says "If I wanted to buy a stolen T.V, I would go to Dardan." He works along with fellow goons, Bledar Morina and Kalem Vulaj. First, Niko breaks his arm in the mission 'Three's A Crowd', and then chases him down and kills him with a knife (or it is possible for the protagonist to kick him out the window) after Bledar and Kalem beat up Roman at a basketball court. As a result, Dardan is killed along with his associates Kalem and Bledar. Their deaths leave Roman debt free with the Albanians.
Bledar Morina

Bledar Morina is a Albanian gangster who is a member of the Albanian loan-sharks operating in Broker. Niko beats him to death in a fight at a playground.

Kalem Vulaj is an Albanian gangster who is a member of the Albanian loan-sharks in Broker. He is also Dardan's brother. Niko beats him to death in a fight at a playground.
Ancelotti crime family
Gracie Ancelotti
"Introduced in: "I'll Take Her..."
Grace Ancelotti is the daughter of Giovanni Ancelotti, boss of the Ancelotti crime family. Gerry McReary orders her kidnapped, in order to bargain with the Ancelottis for money. Niko kidnaps her after responding to a For Sale ad she posted online for her pink Feltzer, which is the only car in the game to have a custom paint-job. After Niko test drives her car, during which she seems to actually fancy Niko, he drives her to the safehouse to kidnap her. On the way, she tries to wrestle control of the steering wheel from him and climb out from the car, and is subsequently knocked out by Niko. Niko develops a deep loathing for her during this sequence. This is shown mostly by the fact that he has her bound and gagged throughout most of her appearances and makes her travel in the trunk of his car. After she is returned to her family, she can be encountered outside her home, where she recognizes Niko (though he pretends to not know her), and orders some mobsters to attack him.

'Gay' Anthony Prince is a nightclub entrepreneur connected with the Ancelotti crime family through Gracie Ancelotti. His personal bodyguard is Luis Fernando Lopez. Tony and Luis are sent to the diamond exchange to bring home Gracie Ancelotti. Tony is 50 years old.

Luca Silvestri is a
waste collector with ties to the Pegorino crime family. As part of a plan to smuggle diamonds for Ray Boccino, Luca and his two fellow waste collectors, Joe DiLeo and John Barbosa - along with Niko - were assigned to pick up garbage bags secretly filled with the diamonds. When Niko departs, Luca and the rest of his crew keep the diamonds for themselves and plan to start a new life in Las Venturas. Ray finds out and sends Niko to stop them. Luca and his crew try to escape, but crash their car in Middle Park. Luca retreats to a public restroom stall, where Niko corners and kills him and retrieves the diamonds. Ray reveals that he never intended for Niko to kill them during a phone call with Niko.Joe DiLeo

Michael Keane, sometimes called Saint Michael, is an associate of the McReary Crime Family. He is often called stupid by his cohorts, who accuse him of being inbred. He helps Packie, Gordon and Niko rob the Ancelotti Crime Family at their Warehouse on Colony Island. Later, he helps them rob the bank with Derrick McReary. However, Derrick and Packie argue when Derrick refers to them as "brothers," and their temporary distraction is enough time for a hostage to pull out his gun and shoot Michael. Packie laments on his death, wishing he'd been nicer to him.

Maureen McReary

Maureen McReary is the elderly mother of Derrick, Francis, Packie, Gerry and Kate McReary. She is well aware of her sons' criminal activities and also believes that her late husband is "in hell." If the player kills Derrick, Maureen is very devastated that he is dead because he never got to live a successful life. If the player kills Francis, she thinks that he was killed simply because he was a cop. Packie seemingly dislikes being under his mother's wing at times, but is really loving towards her, and cares about her deeply. At the end of the revenge storyline Packie comforts her after Kate's murder.

When Aiden starts to tell the authorities about Derrick's involvement in crime, Derrick orders his death. To make sure they silence Aiden without Derrick being suspected, as well nullifying his testimony, they intercept a prison bus taking Aiden back to the Alderney State Correctional Facility and fake a prison break, thus making Aiden think he's being freed and the LCPD think that Aiden made up his testimony to be taken out of prison where he could then be broken out. Niko and Packie then take Aiden to some cliffs near the sea and assassinate him, allowing his body to fall down the cliffs and into the sea. However, later in the game, O'Malley's body is discovered.
Bucky Sligo
Bucky Sligo is, like Aiden O'Malley, a former associate of Derrick McReary. Recently released from prison, Bucky makes plans to come after Derrick, whom he suspects ratted him out to the authorities. Derrick, fearing for his life, places a hit on Bucky and orders Niko to go after him, locate the rest of his gang and wipe them all out.
Lyle Rivas

Lyle Rivas is a Puerto Rican drug trafficker killed by Niko. Lyle was chased throughout Liberty City and killed by being run over by Niko. In the following mission Niko is ordered to take his car.
Tom Rivas

Thomas "French Tom" Rivas is Lyle Rivas's gay cousin who owed Brucie money and is later killed at the 69th Street Diner by Niko.

Milica Bellic is Niko's mother and Roman's aunt, who frequently sends emails to him during the course of the game's storyline. In her emails, she mentions that she feels guilty that a person like Niko was corrupted by the environment that he grew up in. Roman suggests that she should move to America to live with them, but Niko completely disagrees, thinking that it will make things much worse and pointing out the extent of trouble in their lives.

Despite being married, he is in fact gay and dating Bernie Crane. In return for protecting Bernie from Dimitri Rascalov, Bernie gives Niko his sports car, which was a gift to Bernie from Bryce.
