Solomon's Temple, Buxton

Solomon's Temple, also known as Grinlow Tower, is a Victorian Folly close to the spa town of Buxton in the Derbyshire Peak District. [ [http://www.odd-stuff.info/follies/solomon.htm odd-stuff.info] ]

It is said to have been built by Solomon Mycock in the 1890s, paid for by public subscription to provide work for the locally unemployed with assistance of the seventh Duke of Devonshire.

This is a twenty foot high, two-storey tower, sitting on top of a ridge at a height of 440 metres (1440 feet) above sea level built on top of a bronze age barrow. The tower which appears to have no obvious link with a temple was restored in 1998 again fittingly by public subscription. [http://www.poolescavern.co.uk/view/Buxton_Country_Park/Solomon's_Temple/ Pooles Cavern.co.uk] accessed 10 February 2008]
