Loïc Pillois

Loïc Pillois

Loïc Pillois is a French hiker, who after having lost his way, with his friend Guilhem Nayral, in the rainforest of French Guiana, managed to reach safety after seven weeks.

Pillois and Nayral set out February 14, 2007 from Grand Kanori rapids, on the Approuague River in central Guiana. After twleve days walking, they had still not reached their destination and decided to strike camp in a clearing and light a fire, in the hope of being spotted by rescue helicopters.

Thirteen days later, they had run out of food and were forced to survive on palm seeds and small animals and insects. Eventually, after three weeks, they realised that no help would come and decide to move on. They were hampered in their movements by weakness through lack of food and were forced to move at a slow pace, walking for two days and then resting for a third.

When Nayral fell ill, Pillois had to continue alone, and walked six hours until he reached the village of Saül on April 5, 2007,and was able to call for help. The two hikers had been lost for 49 days and had travelled 100 kilometers.
