TrueMajority

TrueMajority

TrueMajority is an organization which advocates certain liberal or progressive changes to U.S. Government policy.http://www.truemajority.org/who/principles.php Our Principles: TrueMajority.org] Although these changes would constitute a large divergence from U.S. policy to date, TrueMajority holds that many if not most U.S. citizens would actually favor making such changes.

The organization's basic strategy is that people register for free as TrueMajority members; then, when TrueMajority decides it is important to send a message to the government (usually specifically to the U.S. Congress), they will send emails to all their members, containing a brief policy statement. Members may ignore each statement, or may approve it by sending a reply email. Whenever a member approves a statement, that statement will be faxed to that member's Congressional representatives in that member's name. Members may also modify the statement or replace it with another to be faxed. [http://www.truemajority.org/who/ Who We Are: TrueMajority.org] The whole process is automated and is advertised to take members two minutes per month (assuming they don't write their own statements).

TrueMajority was founded by Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's.

TrueMajorityACTION is a separate but closely related organization, which has a different status under U.S. law so that it can campaign for specific parties and politicians. In September 2007, TrueMajorityACTION merged with USAction. [http://www.usaction.org/site/pp.asp?c=eiJPJ5OVF&b=83295 About USAction]

As of July 2005, TrueMajority claims 435,000 members; TrueMajorityACTION claims 150,000.Fact|date=March 2008
