- PHPClasses Repository
The PHPClasses Repository is a site located at [http://www.phpclasses.org/ http://www.phpclasses.org/] with freely distributable Web programming components in the form of
PHP classes of objects. It was launched in June 1999 byManuel Lemos as a means of distributing his own classes of PHP objects. Soon after it was launched, the repository was opened for contribution from other authors. Each author is free to submit his own packages without any special requirements in terms of code formatting style. Only packages that provide functionality implemented by classes of PHP objects are accepted.
The site keeps track of the downloads of each package made by logged users. The information about which users downloaded a package can be used to notify those users when the package is updated by the author, except for users that do not want to be notified. The site also builds top download charts to let authors and users know which are the most popular packages.
PHP Programming Innovation Award
The PHP Programming Innovation Award is an initiative to provide recognition to developers who make outstanding contributions to the PHP community.
The award aims to honor developers who share components in the form of PHP classes of objects that provide innovative features or solve problems with approaches that provide additional value to the PHP applications of other developers.
The main goal of this award is to encourage developers to contribute PHP components that provide innovative features, instead of just replicating the features already provided by previously contributed components.
At the same time it is expected or hoped that the recognition and prizes, which can be earned by award nominees and winners, will motivate more capable developers, who otherwise would not participate, to make contributions.
