Surf-Bored Cat is a 1967 Tom and Jerry directed by Abe Levitow and produced by Chuck Jones.

Plot

Tom and Jerry are on a cruise ship approaching a tropical Caribbean beach, and Tom is looking out the window in longing. His eyes grow big when he sees a surfer riding a wave. Tom leaps for joy and dashes off. Tom makes so much noise preparing for surfing that he wakes up Jerry. Tom carries his surfboard out to the deck, but cannot fit it sideways through the door; Tom is knocked out because of the speed he was running at. Jerry is shocked. Tom tries again and this time turns the board northways and southways, but runs into it again. However, it is almost out; Tom circles to the other side and pulls it out and it falls on top of the cat. Tom then carries the board on top of his head and ruffles Jerry as he passes. Tom extends his board as he ventures out into the water, but he is floating in midair; his board falls, then his torso, then his head, and finally his legs. Tom has fallen onto the pier. Jerry walks over and watches in pity. Tom recovers and falls off the edge into a fish boat, then escapes "that" and falls into a rowboat. Then he finally makes it to the sea. Jerry 'tsk's.

Tom has landed on a large blue bump that reveals itself to be a shark. Tom peers over at the other surfers in puzzlement as to why the shark is not attacking them; then he pounds the shark on the head. It falls back into the water, knocked out.

Tom surfs a large wave and seems to be having the life until he spots the shark below him, laughing demonically. Tom pulls himself up to the top of the wave and taunts the shark, then realizes he's about to have a wipeout. Tom is sucked beneath the water and soon encounters the shark again. Tom turns his arms such that he rows with them and speeds away from the shark. Tom is launched a foot into the air and stops pedaling when he realizes he can coast to the coast. He taunts the shark a second time but scrapes the sand and runs into a rock. A mound of sand covers him and the surfboard is up against the rock, giving the mound the appearance of a grave. The letters "R.I.P" are even on the top of the surfboard. Jerry walks onto the "grave" and drops a flower onto it. He takes off his hat as a salute but is soon grabbed by Tom, who spits out the flower. Jerry titters. Soon, the sand comes off Tom's head and it is revealed that a red baby octopus has grabbed ahold of it.

The octopus makes a pose (at one point, it imitates Jimmy Durante) and takes off the hat before Tom attempts to remove the cephalopod. Twice he fails to pull it off his head and then Tom leaps out of the sand in pain. Jerry is perched on a rock and he is laughing at Tom's marine predicament. Tom pulls with all his might, but only succeeds in getting the octopus onto his hands. Tom then uses his left foot to remove it. Tom claps his hands and walks away, but a squelching noise tells him that the eight-armed creature has latched onto his foot. Tom tries to kick it off and fails, then pulls it off with his hands. However, it is back on his head. Jerry comes up with a plan and whispers it into Tom's ear. The octopus protests, but Tom carries it out anyway: He bumps his head on the rock. A bump forms on his head, but the octopus is not removed. Tom cries and points to the rock and his head, and the octopus, out of pity, unlatches itself and strides away.

Tom leaps for joy, but soon finds Jerry has taken his surfboard. Tom gets even angrier when Jerry does a sombrero dance with the hat. Jerry puts the hat back on and poses, but Tom takes the surfboard and waves at the mouse. Jerry continues to fly through the air and then runs into a coconut tree. Jerry gets his head lodged in a coconut and stumbles around the beach. Tom paddles away, but soon encounters the shark a third time. Tom jumps off his surfboard and swims to shore, causing the board to fly into the shark's mouth. Tom laughs himself silly, but the shark expels the board and ends up throwing it into "Tom's" mouth. The shark laughs maniacally as it departs.

Tom is then used as a surfboard by Jerry, who dances to the same Caribbean dance music used throughout the cartoon.
