John Pemberton is a former footballer playing in England, born 18 November 1964 [ [http://www.leedsfans.org.uk/leeds/players/474.html Birthdate] confirmation: "Leedsfans.org.uk" website.] , Oldham, Lancashire.

He started his career as a junior at Manchester United but was released in June 1983. He signed for Chadderton F.C., then Rochdale A.F.C. before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 1985. He initially came to prominence when he joined Crystal Palace in 1988, helping them win promotion to Division 1 (the top level of English football) in 1989. He appeared for Palace in the 1990 FA Cup Final against Manchester United. The initial tie was drawn 3-3 after extra time with United winning the replay 1-0 after extra time.

In 1990 Pemberton transferred to Sheffield United. He played for Sheffield United until 1993 when he transferred to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United. Pemberton became something of a cult figure at Leeds owing to his determination and high work-rate. He appeared in a second Wembley final when he played for Leeds in the 1996 Coca-Cola Cup Final against Aston Villa; again, unfortunately for Pemberton, his side were defeated.

He ended his career back at Crewe Alexandra with one appearance in the 1997-1998 season.

John currently works for Nottingham Forest as their reserve team coach. [ [http://www.nottinghamforest.premiumtv.co.uk/page/WhosWho/0,,10308,00.html Working as a coach] : Nottingham Forest's Official website.] In 2007/08 he led the reserves to the Pontins Central League championship.

Trivia

* Pemberton appeared on BBC children's show "Blue Peter" in 1990 singing Crystal Palace's 1990 FA Cup Final song.
* Pemberton played in the 1996 League Cup Final; at the time, the competition was sponsored by Coca-Cola, the creator of which was also, ironically, named John Pemberton.
