- SMS Moltke (1877)
SMS "Moltke" was a German three-masted, fully-rigged
sail ship of theKaiserliche Marine . It had an unplated iron hull and asteam engine . It was named after the19th century general Helmuth von Moltke.The construction began in
1875 and onOctober 18 ,1877 SMS "Moltke" was launched. OnApril 16 ,1878 it was commissioned into service. The ship served in the training of officers, for which it undertook numerous voyages abroad.On
October 28 ,1911 SMS "Moltke" was renamed to SMS "Acheron". In1918 it was used as hulk forU-boat crew training. Finally in1920 it was broken up.SMS "Moltke" sister ships were the SMS Blücher, SMS Stosch, SMS Stein, and SMS Gneisenau.
