Laura Daniela Lloreda

Laura Daniela Lloreda (born April 30, 1981) is a Puerto Rican volleyball player. She was born in Hato Rey, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Sports-wise, she has two citizenships, as she lived for many years in the state of Veracruz, Mexico, and represented that country's national team at various international competitions. Interviewed by El Vocero before a competition game against Puerto Rico's national team, she said she felt contrasting feelings: while she did not want Puerto Rico to lose, she also wanted to win the match.

Biography

The daughter of Waldo and Adela Lloreda, Laura Daniela Lloreda spent her childhood in Puerto Rico, but she chose to move to Mexico at the age of seven, having been offered an opportunity to study at the famous Universidad de las Americas there. Lloreda wanted to expand her horizons: she wanted to become a graphic designer, while at the same time, play her favorite sport in a collegiate level.

Lloreda later on played for the Veracruz team in the Mexican national women's volleyball league, and she earned a spot, after a few months in Mexico, to play for their national team.

In 1996, she led the Mexican national team to a bronze medal at the Norceca competition, held in the Dominican Republic. In 1997, in front of her Puerto Rican fans, she led the team to a silver medal. In 1998, when the tournament returned to the Dominican Republic, her team also took a silver medal. In 1999, the team finished in sixth place, but Lloreda was named the tournament's MVP.

In 2001, she went on to the Baylor University in the United States, where she excelled right away, leading her team in various categories. On October 22 of that year, she tied a school record, and broke a Big 12 Conference record, by recording nine ace services. She led the team in digs, double-doubles and other categories.

Lloreda hopes to graduate as a graphic designer from Baylor, while, at the same time, impress some other professional teams to be signed in a future.
