Cambridge Centre first opened in 1996. The site had previously been occupied in part by the smaller John Galt Centre, which was retro-fitted and expanded to the first phase of the Cambridge Centre.
The mall underwent a major expansion in 2002, which added a new food court (the former food court in front of the cinema was converted into additional shops), a Sears department store, and an
NHL -sized ice rink known as the Cambridge Ice Centre.
