- James Bonar
James Bonar (1852 - 1941) was a British civil servant, economist and historian of economic thought. He was born in
Perth, Scotland and studied atOxford University , (BA, 1877) andGlasgow University , (LLD, 1886). He was one of the founding members of theRoyal Economic Society . As a historian of economics he concentrated mainly on the work ofAdam Smith ,David Ricardo andThomas Malthus . He also introduced the works of the Austrian economists to a largely unaware English-speaking public. His "Philosophy and Political Economy" was much appreciated in continental Europe. He contributed extensively to "Palgrave's Dictionary of Political Economy", and published many aricles in the Economic Journal. He obtained an Honorary Doctorate fromCambridge University in 1935.Major publications
