Habib Bourguiba, Jr., born
April 9 1927 inParis , is a diplomat and a political figure ofTunisia .He is the son of
Habib Bourguiba , who became the first president of the Republic of Tunisia in 1957, and of his first spouseMathilde Lorrain (later Moufida Bourgiba). He was appointed Ambassador of Tunisia to France in November 1958, and later was Tunisia's Ambassador to the United States of America.In 1964 he replaced
Mongi Slim as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, which position he held until 1970. He then became Secretary of Justice until he was named Special Counselor in 1977. He was removed from office as part of the coup d'etat on7 November 1987 which overthrew his father's administration.Today, he is a shareholder (2.3%) and board member of the BIAT Banque.
Personal life
He is married to Neïla Zouiten, daughter of Chedly Zouiten (the founder of the EST soccer club of Tunis). They have three children:
*Mouezz Bourguiba (bornMarch 14 1956 inTunis ) : married to Françoise Peignon and father of Amina Bourguiba (born 1985) and Aïcha Bourguiba (born 1989)
*Mahdi Bourguiba
*Meriem Bourguiba married to Kais Laouiti, son of Allala Laouiti, former Private Secretary to President Bourguiba.
