Dr. Jong Won Park received his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from
Yonsei University inSeoul , Korea, a Master of Music in Voice Performance from theCleveland Institute of Music , a Master of Music in Choral Conducting fromCleveland State University , and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting fromMichigan State University . Dr. Park studied voice under Ethel Armeling, Ivrin Bushmann, and studied conducting under Charles Smith.Appearances
Dr. Park, a
baritone , has appeared as a recitalist and soloist in many performances ofOratorio andMass . He has frequently sung withRobert Shaw (conductor) , including performances with the "Robert Shaw Festival Singers" atSouillac inFrance 1990 and the concerts atCarnegie Hall in 1991 and 1992. Park has guest conducted several professional choirs inKorea such as Seoul City Choir, the Seoul Ladies Singers, the Chon-Ahn City Chorus, and the Chejoo Concert Choir. He is a founder of theAtlanta Master Chorale, a community chorus, and the JW Chorale, which is a semi-professional female choir. Also, he was a co-founder of Sonorium, andearly music ensemble comprised of a small vocal ensemble and an instrumental group.Present
JW Park is an assistant professor of music and the director of choral activities at the
University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he directs the UWRF Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers, teaches private voice lessons, vocal pedagogy, and choral conducting. Prior to UWRF, he held a similar position atIndiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne inIndiana from 2001 to 2003,Yonsei University inSeoul ,Korea from 1995 to 2001, and an Associate Director of Choral Activities atAuburn University inAlabama from 1992 to 1995.Park is an active clinician, presenting over 50 lectures at workshops with topics including Group
Vocal Techniques and Choral Rehearsal Techniques. He is an active member of The American Choral Directors Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. JW Park has also published numerous choral music books under Choral 21.Under the direction of Dr. JW Park,
University of Wisconsin-River Falls Concert Choir was awarded the top prize at WMEA (Wisconsin Music Educators Association). The choir has two CDs complied - one titled, Jubilate Deo, and the other called Water Night.Recently, the
University of Wisconsin - River Falls Concert Choir performed at the NCACDA (North Central Division ACDA) Convention in Fargo, ND under the direction of JW Park. Also, Dr. Park lectured on "Incorporating Tai-Chi Gigong into Singing" at the convention.External links
