Trezzo sull'Adda Bridge

Trezzo sull'Adda Bridge

The Trezzo sull'Adda Bridge or Trezzo Bridge was the largest arch bridge that had ever been built for over four centuries. Built at Trezzo sull'Adda in Lombardy, Italy in 1377, its 72 metre (237 ft) span [Structurae|id=s0004605|title=Trezzo Bridge] [Colin O'Connor: "Roman Bridges", Cambridge University Press, 1993, ISBN 0-521-39326-4, p.188] was not matched until a metal arch bridge of the same span was built at Sunderland over the River Wear, England in 1796. [Troyano, Leonardo Fernández, "Bridge Engineering - A Global Perspective", Thomas Telford Publishing, 2003] Longer span stone arches were not built until the 20th century.

The bridge spanned the Adda River next to Trezzo's castle. It was destroyed in 1416.
