February 2 ,1968 in Atlanta, Georgia) is a formerAmerican football linebacker and a first round draft pick of thePittsburgh Steelers in the1991 NFL Draft .Draft
Based on a conversation with former Steelers director of scouting, Max McCartney, with three picks remaining before the Steelers picked at number 15, they had three players targeted that they would be willing to select: WR
Alvin Harper of Tennessee, WRMike Pritchard of Colorado and RBLeonard Russell of Arizona State. When those three players were all drafted with the three preceding selections (Dallas, Atlanta and New England respectively), Pittsburgh was unprepared and was forced to make a decision on a player before their 15 minute time limit expired. They settled on Richardson who was a standout, dynamic pass-rushing defensive end at theUniversity of Florida .NFL career
Richardson played only five games with the Steelers in 1991, registering no statistics. Following the 1991 season, long-time head coach
Chuck Noll retired and was replaced byBill Cowher . One of Cowher's first orders of business was to trade Richardson, the previous years' first round pick, to theWashington Redskins for a seventh round draft pick. After four uneventful games with the Redskins, he was released and signed with theNew York Jets . At the end of the 1992 season, after seven games with the Jets, Richardson's shortNFL career ended, registering no tackles or measurable statistics. After football & 9/11
