Huey L. Richardson (born February 2, 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia) is a former American football linebacker and a first round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1991 NFL Draft.

Draft

Based on a conversation with former Steelers director of scouting, Max McCartney, with three picks remaining before the Steelers picked at number 15, they had three players targeted that they would be willing to select: WR Alvin Harper of Tennessee, WR Mike Pritchard of Colorado and RB Leonard Russell of Arizona State. When those three players were all drafted with the three preceding selections (Dallas, Atlanta and New England respectively), Pittsburgh was unprepared and was forced to make a decision on a player before their 15 minute time limit expired. They settled on Richardson who was a standout, dynamic pass-rushing defensive end at the University of Florida.

NFL career

Richardson played only five games with the Steelers in 1991, registering no statistics. Following the 1991 season, long-time head coach Chuck Noll retired and was replaced by Bill Cowher. One of Cowher's first orders of business was to trade Richardson, the previous years' first round pick, to the Washington Redskins for a seventh round draft pick. After four uneventful games with the Redskins, he was released and signed with the New York Jets. At the end of the 1992 season, after seven games with the Jets, Richardson's short NFL career ended, registering no tackles or measurable statistics.

After football & 9/11

Huey returned to college and earned his MBA from Emory University in 2000 and currently works as a financial analyst for Merrill Lynch in New York City. He was in the World Trade Center for a meeting on the morning of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. His meeting was scheduled to take place on an upper floor of the building but he was delayed in the lobby before boarding the elevator. He was able to leave the building safely after the first plane hit the building. [http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05109/490519-66.stm]
