Henry Powlett, 3rd Baron Bayning

Henry Powlett, 3rd Baron Bayning

Henry William Powlett, 3rd Baron Bayning (8 June 1797-5 August 1866), known as the Honourable Henry Townshend until 1823, was a British peer and clergyman.

Bayning was the second son of Charles Townshend, 1st Baron Bayning, son of William Townshend and Henrietta Powlett. His mother was Annabella Smith-Powlett, daughter of Reverend Richard Smith and Annabella Powlett. He was educated at Eton and St John's College, Cambridge, and was later Rector of Brome, Suffolk, and as Vicar of Honingham, Norfolk. In 1823 he succeeded his elder brother in the barony and assumed the same year by Royal license the surname of Powlett in lieu of Townshend.

Lord Bayning married Emma, daughter of William Henry Fellowes, in 1842. Their only son the Hon. Charles William Powlett died unmarried in 1864, aged 19. Bayning died in August 1866, aged 69. Upon his death the barony became extinct. Lady Bayning died in 1887.
