Samuil's Fortress, Ohrid

Samuil's Fortress is a fortress in the old part of Ohrid called the Ohrid Kale. It was the capital of the First Bulgarian Empire [Bulgarian Folk Customs by Mercia MacDermott,1998,ISBN-10: 1853024856,page 26: "... one of these brothers, Samuil, proclaimed himself Tsar, with his capital at Ohrid.] during the rule of Samuel in the middle-ages. Today, this historical monument is a major tourist attraction. It was renovated in 2003.
