LI-COR Biosciences

LI-COR Biosciences

[http://www.licor.com LI-COR Biosciences] designs, manufactures, and markets integrated instrument systems for plant physiology, biotechnology, environmental research, and drug discovery. LI-COR instruments for photosynthesis, gas analysis and light measurement are used worldwide for plant physiology, climate change research, agricultural research, and environmental monitoring. LI-COR infrared instrument and reagent systems provide imaging for applications including Western blots, In-Cell Western assays, EMSA's, gel documentation, in vivo imaging, and DNA Sequencing.

History

LI-COR Biosciences was founded in 1971, under the name Lambda Instruments Corporation. The name was formally changed to the acronym LI-COR, Inc. in 1980. LI-COR is a privately held company based in Lincoln, Nebraska USA, with subsidiaries in Germany and the United Kingdom. ignificant scientific contributions

LI-COR automated DNA sequencers were the primary systems used by [http://www.genoscope.fr/ Genoscope] the French National Sequencing Center to sequence chromosome 14 of the Human Genome project.

[http://www.fluxnet.ornl.gov/fluxnet/index.cfm Fluxnet] sites worldwide, numbering over 400 sites, use a number of LI-COR instruments including the LI-7500 Open Path CO2/H2O gas analyzer for measuring atmospheric carbon dioxide, LI-7000 Closed Path CO2/H2O gas analyzer, LI-6400 Portable Photosynthesis System, LAI-2000 Plant Canopy Analyzer for measuring leaf area index, and LI-COR light sensors. The Fluxnet sites contribute significantly to the global climate change studies conducted by various university and government researchers worldwide.

LI-COR gas analyzers are used worldwide for monitoring volcanic CO2. [http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/About/What/Monitor/Gas/plumes.html USGS monitors CO2] using LI-COR analyzers at Mount St. Helens and other locations.
