Jennifer J. Raab is the 13th and current president of
Hunter College of theCity University of New York holding this position since June 2001. She is responsible for overseeing the functions ofCUNY 's largest college and its various affiliates such as theHunter College High School for gifted students.Education
Raab attended
Hunter College High School and went on to receive a B.A. with distinction in all subjects fromCornell University . She received a Master's in Public Affairs from theWoodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs atPrinceton University . She is also a cum laude graduate ofHarvard Law School .Career
Raab worked for several years as a litigator at two of the nation's most prestigious law firms,
Cravath, Swaine & Moore andPaul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison . She was also special projects manager for theSouth Bronx Development Organization and director of public affairs for theNew York City Planning Commission . Raab served for seven years as Chairman of theNew York City Landmarks Preservation Commission under mayorRudolph Giuliani and on theCharter Revision Commission under mayorMichael Bloomberg .She is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council of
Princeton University , Board of Directors ofHumanity In Action ,The After School Corporation , Steering Committee of theAssociation for a Better New York , and a member ofThe Council on Foreign Relations . Mayor Giuliani appointed her president ofHunter College in 2001 amid controversy and accusations of intimidation of the Board of Trustees. The resistance to her appointment in the CUNY community stemmed from Raab's lack of doctoral degree and fundraising experience.
