Stylianos Lenas was born in
Handria ,Cyprus and was a member ofEOKA .Early life
Stylianos Lenas was born from a poor family in Handria. When he finished puberty school in his village, he took a job in town. He went to
Lero for his studies and when he returned, he opened a shop.EOKA
He was one of the first members to join EOKA after the revolutionary call of Cyprus. He was pursued by the English, so he became a rebel in the mountains of
Troodos . His skills in the rebel-war and his unique adroit in the making of bombs and grenades made him an admirable fighter.Countless times he came face to face with the English, and they all tasted their defeat. His love for his country made him risky, and he was the leader of any dangerous assignment.
In an awful and bloodsheding battle with the Army in the area of
Potamitissa inFebruary 17 ,1957 , Stylianos Lenas was heavily injured and caught by the English. In the hospital ofAkrotiri , he fought with death for 39 days. When his relatives came to visit him, he said:-"Didn't you bring a little poison with you to give me, since I've been caught alive?"
Lenas died on
March 28 ,1957 . He was buried at theCentral Jail of Lefkosia .
