For thirty years, Jorge Blanco (b. 1945
Caracas ,Venezuela ) has received recognition for his work as an artist,sculptor ,graphic designer , illustrator and humorist. Trained as an industrial designer, Jorge Blanco displays a mastery of emblematic form in sculpture. In 1971 he received an academic degree inindustrial design , from theNeumann Institute in Caracas. Jorge moved toRome in 1974 where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. His first sculpture exhibition in Europe was a one-man show at the Italian-American Institute in Rome in 1978. In 1979, his sculptures and drawings were exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum in Caracas. Since then he has participated in over 100 group and solo exhibitions in Venezuela, Europe, Japan and the US. In the United States he has gallery representation inFlorida andCalifornia . His work is sold privately in Europe and South America.In 1979, Jorge created the corporate image for the Children's’ Museum (Museo de los Niños) in Caracas. He continues to collaborate with this educational institution.
Jorge Blanco is the author and illustrator of "El Naufrago" (The Castaway) a comic strip first published in 1980 in Caracas, Venezuela it enjoyed continued popularity and was published in a series of seven books and in many of the daily newspapers of his native city.
Since 1999 he lives and works in
Sarasota , Florida. In 2005 Jorge was highlighted by "Florida International Magazine", as one of the creative individuals that help make Florida a destination with unlimited potential.During the last 11 years Jorge has directed his efforts to the creation of large-scale sculpture, convinced that through works that are vibrant and full of optimism he can contribute to the cultural development of our communities. Jorge has successfully installed large scale and medium size works in different public and private sites.
